Fifty-three students represented thirteen Alabama-West Florida District Civitan Clubs at Harding University’s 54th Annual National Leadership Forum (NLF) in Searcy, Arkansas. Chaperones included Jim Hopkins (Enterprise), Tanny Kang-McMillian (Cottage Hill), Margie Thomasson (Andalusia) and Mike Barrington (Pensacola).
Delegates were instructed in the values and qualities of leadership and learned how our country has developed its leaders. They also addressed contemporary issues facing young leaders in high school.
Presentations were given by such leaders as: Dean Sikes of the Spirit of America Foundation urging delegates to “Discover Your Destiny;” John Foppe, motivational speaker addressing “Life is an Attitude;” educator Pat Socia, encouraging sexual moral leadership; Melissa Burniston of the Tennessee Farm Bureau examining critical issues facing the environment and agriculture; Dr. Nathan Mellor, president of Strata Leadership, LLC, discussing “Leadership and the Economy;” B. Chris Simpson sharing how “Leaders Communicate;” and Dr. Dee Carson leading the students to discover their leadership and learning styles.
More than 300 young people from five states attended this year’s National Leadership Forum. Harding University, with an enrollment of over 6,000, is the largest private university in Arkansas.
Thanks to all the Clubs and Club NLF coordinators for selecting such well qualified students and supporting this program. Alabama-West Florida Civitans are indeed...Builders of good citizenship.
