Mission Statement:
The mission of Civitan worldwide is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. |

Civitan began in 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama with a group of local business men including Dr. Courtney Shropshire, the founder of Civitan International. Today, Civitan International has grown to about 1500 Civitan, Campus Civitan, and Junior Civitan clubs in more than 20 countries.
