Cardinal District

Welcome to 2009!!

I now have a 13 year old and never

thought it would happen.

The years fly by, and we are still

trying to help whoever we can.

As I look at the last couple of

months of being your Central Columbus

Civitan Club President, I

know we are ready to move into 2009.

We must look at our involvement in the community

and think, What can we do? Or how can I help?

As a club we have several opportunities for fundraising

and projects, but new ideas are needed. So by

coming to the meetings you can let others know what

you think.

We are a small club and not everyone needs to be

an officer. We need just members too; the fellowship

at dinner is great. It is funny how I may never have

met, Larry & Kathy McVay, Tim & Debbie Cole or

even Jayne, but now I get to have dinner with these

wonderful people two times a month. We all look for

ways to have personal growth and make ourselves

better people in our daily lives. Breaking bread on

every other Wednesday with the club members has

helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel and

gives me motivation to see this club be a leading

force in the Cardinal District. I know all of them

would help anyone in anyway they could, oh yes

even Richard.

At the next meeting we will be discussing membership

meetings and projects, as well as helping our

District Governor Debbie, with whatever she needs

for the District meetings.

Please plan to attend.

INSIDE THIS ISSUE

Club has a website

Thanks to Debbie Cole, the Central

Columbus Civitan Club has its own

website.

To see the excellent job that Debbie

did, go to Civitan International website

(www.civitan.com), then click on Communications

& PR, under that area click on Websites &

Email, when that opens choose Club & District

websites, then when that opens scroll down to Cardinal

District and click on Central Columbus Civitan

Club.

This is a project we have been talking about for

a couple of years, and particularly this current

Civitan year. Debbie felt she needed to see how the

International’s site showed the procedure to use

their template to build a site.

It definitely gives the club a good place to direct

prospects to learn about our club and its activities.

Thanks Debbie.

Christmas gifts to Children’s Hospital

When last month’s

CIVIGRAM was published

the presentation

of the gifts for children

at Nationwide Children’s

Hospital had not

actually been done.

On December 30th,

President Steve went to the hospital and met with

Cathy Kellerman, Director, Donor Relations, and

presented the gifts. Among the gifts were: phone

cards, nail polish sets, disposable cameras, board

games, puzzles, art kits and supplies, notebooks,

puzzle and crossword books.

Most of the gifts were for older children, as the

hospital staff had said that age group was difficult

to provide for. This along with the club’s donation

of items to UPC made the Christmas season extra

special for club members.

The lighter side…

what not to do during an interview

Recently a staffing service for office and administrative

professionals, asked managers nationwide

to describe the most unusual college graduate

job interview antics they had ever witnessed or

heard from clients and colleagues. Here are some

of the responses:

“An entrylevel candidate became so animated

during the interview that his clipon tie fell off.”

“A candidate fell asleep during her interview.”

“A job seeker showed up for her interview professionally

dressed, except for her feet. She was

wearing leopardprint slippers with fuzzy puffballs

and feathers.”

“A candidate tilted his chair back and put his

feet on top the interviewer’s desk.”

“A candidate came to the interview with her

baby. When the child would not stop crying, she

handed him to the hiring manger saying, ‘I give up,

can you try to quiet him down?’”

“A new graduate came to his interview wearing

sunglasses and licking a lollipop. He commented

to the hiring manager, ‘This is my

style...you can take it or leave it.”

“A candidate pulled out his laptop during the

interview and took notes. At the end of the meeting,

he asked if he could use a letterquality printer

to print them.”

A thought for the day : It’s American

If it stands for justice, And the right of it, If it

speaks of goodness, And the might of it, If there’s a

challenge, courage, joy and pride in it..it’s American.

If there’s a helping hand, And words of cheer in

it, If freedom for mankind is very clear to it, If hope,

and faith, and love are very dear to it.. it’s American.
