Can you believe it?  We are already finishing up the first quarter of this Civitan year. In looking back over the last three months, I believe we have been doing the work of Civitan. Many of you have been very active with your support of attending the Friday luncheon program meetings and participating in projects such as the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, Safe Harbor Halloween Dance, canned food collection for Union Mission, helping Junior Civitans with the Brooks Manor Thanksgiving dinner, Hospice Lovelight Tree program, and last but not least, sellingClaxton fruit cakes at the Charleston Town Center and stores throughout the Kanawha Valley and even toward the Huntington area.

As your President, I want to say thanks for all of your work this past three months and I also want to remind you that we still have nine months to go!  Then we will start again under the leadership of “Mr. Fruitcake,” Brant Withrow, for the 2009–2010 Civitan year.

The three months we have just completed have been tough months for some of us. I am thinking of Sherry Russell, Patty Frame, Belford and Virginia Roberts with health problems and others who have had deaths in their families, including Roberta Allison, Jeanne Jarrett and Margaret Buttrick. Our prayers are with you all.

Civitans are family. We work together having fun, helping others and making our communities a better place.
