East Cobb Civitan

Projects
Our Club is involved in a variety of projects for the community!
The Center For Children and Young Adults

This Center is a group home for children that are in the state's custody. Our Club has a variety of interactions each year with the Center. They vary between cookouts and Karaoke parties to bocci or basketball challenges. This project is always remembered during the holidays with gifts of Easter Egg Baskets, Back-to-School supplies or Christmas gifts.
Camp Big Heart

This camp is sponsored by the Georgia District Civitans for 2 weeks every year for mentally & physically challenged campers. Operating at the Camp Willoway facility, it provides safe and rewarding fun for campers from 5 to 70 years old - and is staffed completely by volunteers!

This year, our club donated money to Camp, sponsored three campers and served refreshements one evening.
The East Cobb Park
The East Cobb Park was a dream of many in the community for green, passive space for people to congregate and enjoy. This was a joint private / public project to purchase the property with money from public donations, and then deed the property over to Cobb County's Parks and Recreations Department for development and maintenance. Over $1,000,000 was raised to purchase the original 13 acres of land and prepare it with walking trails, a playground, park benches, a gazebo and fountain. Today the park is in Phase II of development, growing to 42 acres, with additions of an amphitheater, an Art Center with classrooms, additional trails, bathrooms, parking, and picnic areas.

Our Civitan Club holds a wine tasting and silent auction each November, and has donated over $84,000 in proceeds to the Park for development. We are the only service club recognized as a premier sponsor of the park.
Hate to work on Fund Raisers? Afraid you have to sell something?

Our club holds a wine tastings a year. It is held in the fall. We collect donations from the community for a silent auction, too. This is our biggest fund raiser, and after 17 years, it has become an "institution." People in the community look forward to a fun evening and easy way to start their Holiday Gift Shopping!

Last year's event was such a success that the outstanding attendance over whelmed our space! This year we moved our event to October. We did this in hopes of guaranteeing better weather so we could double the space available for the event. We have also changed the food fare to heavy hors d’oeuvres. Please join us for a fun night on October 21st, 2009 at the Indian Hills Country Club.
