Junior Civitan in Florida welcome new clubs and new members.
We have the support and encouragement of our senior Civitan clubs, wonderful Advisors and the senior Florida district Civitan organization.
In addition to local service projects (helping seniors, needy, challenged and children) we fundraise to help in our own respective communities. And, we have fun along the way.
We hold a Florida District convention in April where we attend workshops to enhance our leadership skills, share ideas and experiences and return to our own Club super charged with energy and new ideas.
At the end of June we attend the Junior Civitan International Convention where we participate in workshops, receive executive and board training and again share ideas and experiences. Talk about super charged when we leave that convention with new ideas and life long friends.
While most of our volunteer work benefits only our own local community, Junior Civitans from around the world come together twice a year for the good of one common flagship cause, the Civitan International Research Center (CIRC) and have serious fun while we raise serious money, over $2.5 million dollars of serious money while having serious fun.
CIRC researches mental and physical disabilities then sends the findings, results and tested treatment recommendations to the medical community worldwide.
Teens love to dance but we in Junior Civitan take dancing seriously. We have raised over $1 million dollars to date for the research of mental and physical disabilities. Imagine the joy some Junior Civitans have when they experience snow for the first time in their life. The annual SnoDo enables us to operate snowmobiles and add to the $1.5 million dollars we have raised to date at this event.
Zachary Rivera is the Governor of the Florida Junior Civitans. Matthew Pendleton, immediate past Florida Junior Civitan Governor, is currently the Junior International President. When awards were recently presented for Junior Civitan International, the Florida Junior Civitan District finished as the third best District for 2009-2010.
