Happy New Year! I hope that all of you and your families enjoyed a wonderful Holiday Season and that you will enjoy a Blessed and Prosperous New Year. As we enter this new year with anxiety and in some cases uncertainty, we must remember that we still have so much to be thankful for and that we must work together to make the world a better place through Civitan. As I prepared for Governor Elect Academy, I read Marcus Buckingham's book entitled: "GO, Put Your Strengths to Work". The author's basic premise is that we have it all wrong when we work to improve our weaknesses. It should be just the opposite. He states that we should be working on building our strengths and that we should bring our full strength to the table when we participate with others, whether it be in the workplace or in our case, in our Civitan Club activities. However, one must understand what their strengths really are and develop a personal plan to work on improving them. It may be that you are really good with envisioning projects and bringing them to fruition or it may be that you are good in recruiting others to join our cause or maybe it is with Junior Civitan or youth work. Whatever your strength, always work to improve it even more and to share it with others. I am currently looking to staff a number of District leadership positions for my upcoming year as your Governor. I welcome current District Officers to let me know of their interest in continuing as well as other District Civitans who might be interested in Meeting The Challenge of District service to email or call me to let me know of your interest; considering your strengths, of course. I would like to hear from you in regards to what you think is going well as well as what is not going well and what could be done or changed to make Civitan even better. I would like to offer the following as a beginning thought, "If I could change one thing about the Florida District, it would be….” Come on, Let me hear from you! One final thought, please plan now to attend our District Meeting and Convention. Details and a registration form are in the latest Sunbeam. They are priceless in developing well rounded Civitans and would be very beneficial to new Civitans. It would be very special to have at least one member from each Florida District club in attendance. I really believe that we can do this but it takes your help to make it happen.
