Ab Irvine Scholarship Details

How Do You Qualify for this Scholarship?

The legal address of the applicant must be within the Great Southwest District (Colorado, New Mexico, or El Paso County, Texas) and they must be attending a college or university in Colorado, New Mexico or Texas.

 

This scholarship is given to a student who is a college junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in some field of Special Education.  Example: someone who plans to teach at either the elementary or secondary level majoring in Communication Disorders/Speech and Language Pathology.


Criteria for selection of the scholarship recipient are based on:

  1. Major (must meet requirements above)
  2. GPA in major (must be 3.0 or above)
  3. Career plans
  4. Extra curricular activities
  5. Personal data (e.g. working while going to school)
  6. Financial need.

Along with the application the applicant will need to submit a narrative, not to exceed three typewritten pages, explaining why they have selected Special Education as a career and why they should be chosen to receive this scholarship.

In addition to the application and narrative the applicant must include three letters of recommendation from advisors, professors, or other professionals who know their academic background or career goals and an unofficial grade transcript.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2011 and mailed to the Santa Fe Civitan Club listed on the application.
