Great Southwest Civitan District Foundation
The Ab Irvine Scholarship
What is the Objective of the Ab Irvine Scholarship?
The Ab Irvine Scholarship was established in 1990 as a means to promote the development of a sound, qualified group of educators and therapists in the field of Special Education.

The Scholarship is given annually by the Foundation in memory of a man who personified Civitan (read more about Ab Irvine on the History page). This scholarship is given to a student who is a college junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in some field of Special Education at a college in the GSWC district. This could be someone who plans to teach at either the elementary or secondary level or someone majoring in Communication Disorders/Speech and Language Pathology.
The following awards have been established for 2005:

First Place — $1200

Second Place — $500

Third Place — $300

The winners may use it toward either tuition or books. We recognize that the need for Special Education teachers is great and feel this will assist some deserving student in being able to make a difference.
