Rozier Sanchez Essay Contest
What is the Objective of the Rozier Sanchez Essay Contest?
The essay contest was established to encourage high school students to critically assess current issues and learn the value of citizenship in the United States. It is hoped that this award will encourage students to pursue a college education and enhange their capabilities to express their thoughts and ideas.

A relevant current topic is chosen each year and essays are solicited from all juniors and seniors in high school in the GSWC district (that includes all of Colorado and New Mexico and the El Paso area of Texas). Judging of the winning essays is done by an independent panel of educators who are not associated with Civitan or any of the authors.

The winner this year will receive $1,000, with a second prize of $600, third will get $400, and fourth place will get $200.

The awards ceremony is open to the public and includes dinner and a recitation of the winning essay by the author.
