WHO ARE CIVITANS?

LOCAL HEROES MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN HOT SPRINGS AND IN SURROUNDING COUNTIES

Focus on Developmental Disabilities

On an International level, Civitan is devoted to improving the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities.  This focus began in the 1950s when Civitan funded some of the first special education training for school teachers.  That commitment continues today through local and international efforts such as summer camps, vocational programs, special Olympic games and cutting-edge research into Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Alzheimers at the Civitan International Research Center.

The Hot Springs Civitans are also active in volunteering and fundraising for the benefit of  those with developmental disabilities.  Focus activities include Special Olympics, Jessieville Lifeskills Class, First Step, Abilities Unlimited and a host of other community organizations.

We have also built and support 2 junior Civitan clubs, Jessieville Middle School Jr. Civitan Club and Jessieville High School Jr. Civitan Club.

Join us for our bi-monthly meetings held the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Grandpa's Catfish House, 1020 Airport Road at 5:30 p.m. (dinner and fellowship) with regular meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m.
