ProgramServing the Community
Our guest today was long time resident of Onslow County and a UNC graduate, Ms. Helen Thompson. She attended a local public school and received a degree in Criminal Justice. She spent some time with the Jacksonville Police Dept and is now working as the Safety and Health Specialist for the City of Jacksonville.
Ms. Thompson delivered a very powerful and inspirational presentation on serving the community. She is a member of various organizations and has been a long time volunteer helping the residents of Onslow County. She gets the “volunteerism fever” from her mom that helped the elderly for over twenty years. In closing remarks Ms. Thompson read a poem to us that really hit the spot on what we do and how we as enablers help the community. The poem was “The Ripple Effect,” and below are some of those words.

“If your life works, you influence your family. If your family works, your family influences the community.
If your community works, your community influences the nation. If your nation works, your nation influences the world. If the world works, the ripple effect spreads throughout the cosmos.”
Thanks Ms. Thompson for such an inspirational and uplifting presentation.
