The Jasper Civitan Club is a volunteer organization consisting of individuals who have a primary interest in helping the developmentally disabled in our community. We are also interested in all subject matter related to making our town a better place to live and keeping our community informed.
The Jasper Civitan Club is located in the heart of Walker County with a total population of approximately 15,000 people. We are a group of men and women of all ages who each have a desire to help the less fortunate. We welcome anyone who would like to visit our club. We meet the first and third Tuesdays of every month at the Bevill State Cafeteria from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. We have guest speakers attend and lunch is included.
The Claxton Fruitcakes are a good fundraiser! These are big items in our community in preparations for the holidays. The cost is $5.00 for one pound and $10.00 for two pounds. We are providing recipes with the orders purchased. Hopefully, we ordered enough. All proceeds go to help the developmentally disabled in our community. We sold over 160 pounds of fruitcakes this year!
Cindy Johnson of the Walker County Long-Term Recovery Project was the guest speaker for this month. She gave a tearful speech about helping the tornado affected families at Christmas. The goal is to make Christmas bins to decorate the donated trees, present stockings to the children and try and help out financially.
Charles Lawson is the Governor of the North Alabama District. Pat Jex is Governor Elect. They are doing an excellent job for our communities!
We participated in the Walker County Long-Term Recovery Project to help bring some normalcy back to the tornado affected families by providing Christmas. We made two bins full of decorations, lights, tree stand and ornaments. The Hartselle Civitans joined in and provided 22 really cute stockings for boys and girls in the age range of 1-7 years old. An anonymous donor provided the trees for each of the 50 families involved. It was truly a great project to be a part of!
