Next time your eating out and see this sign or a blue Civitan candy box, please drop in some change. Twenty-five percent of collections are used locally to benefit the developmentally disabled, and the remaining proceeds benefit the Civitan International Research Center on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Members of the Little Rock Civitan Club are dedicated to improving the community through helping others. On the international level, we support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, Ala., a renowned research and treatment facility serving persons with developmental disabilities and special needs. On the local level, Civitans are involved in numerous service projects to help persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The club is also a long-time partner with the Little Rock Zoo. Here are a few of the service projects Little Rock Civitans are involved in:

* Basketball Skills Competition for persons with developmental disabilities.

KNOWLEDGE:
Civitans seek to be better informed and knowledgeable about their community and improve themselves through lifelong learning. Weekly luncheon programs range from community issues addressed by local government, business and media leaders to personal and professional development seminars. Through these informative programs, Civitan members learn about the needs in their community. Then, as concerned citizens, Civitans focus their efforts on deserving causes and needs in the community. Here are just a few of the many topics from some of our recent programs:

* U.S.S. Razorback Submarine and North Shore Development along the Arkansas River.
* Downtown Little Rock and River Market renovations.
* Presidential William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library.
* Arkansas Legislative Representatives with the key issues facing the State of Arkansas
* And many more great speakers...

FELLOWSHIP:
Fellowship is an important part of any growing, productive service club. The Little Rock Civitan Club offers its members many opportunities to socialize, meet new friends and network with business associates. Working together on club projects is fun, and there is always time to enjoy the company of other members and guests at club meetings. Throughout the year Civitans plan special evenings just for fun with the members and their guests. Here are a few examples of the social events and other avenues in which the club fosters fellowship:

* Weekly luncheon meetings.
* St. Valentine's Day Dinner and Social.
* Summer Family Cookout.
* Ozark District Convention.
* Civitan International Convention.
* Annual Awards Banquet.
* Christmas Dinner Party.
* Care-and-share time to find out about those members having hard times or illnesses, as well as recognizing accomplishments of those members who excel in the community.
* The Little Rock Club also has a weekly newsletter to keep its members informed about the many things happening in the club and in the community.
