The London-Middlesex Civitan Club was chartered on June 6th, 1975 and was sponsored by the Kitchener-Waterloo Civitan Club. The original Club chartered with 30 male members and from the very beginning was very active in the community. By the early 80's London followed the lead of Civitan International by welcoming women as equal members, creating the strong and active Club that exists today. Currently the membership stands at 24 members with a good balance of both married couples and singles. The main purpose of the London Club is to serve the community by filling human needs that are not being met by other organizations. In 1984 the London-Middlesex Civitan Club introduced (C.H.I.L.D.) Civitans Help Identify Lost Dependants program to the Civitan Clubs of Canada. This program has been a tremendous success with thousands of children being photographed and finger-printed thereby providing a permanent record should they ever go missing. Our Clubhouse stands at the South East corner of Riverside Drive at Wonderland (the original site of the Thames Valley Boat Club.) Installation of 2008-2009 Officers September 24 at the clubhouse, incoming Governor Norma Johnston installed our new slate of officers for the coming year. Also in attendance was soon to be Past Governor Anita Pereira. We had new caterer that night, Belmont Catering. Paul and the crew did a wonderful job ~ so much so that we have already booked them for our Christmas dinner on December 10th. Thanks, guys, supper was delicious. |
