C.H.I.L.D.
An on going project held throughout the year at various locations (Malls and Schools). If your group is interested in having us conduct a C.H.I.L.D. for your function, please call. We fingerprint and photograph the child on a handy reference card the parents get to keep in case of future need. Next showing: June 7th, Children's Safety Village Birthday Party. See you there!
Mini-Golf Classic
A project held in conjunction with Community Living London providing a fun day of mini-golf and a BBQ for the disabled of the community. This event is held each year in late spring. Date for 2009 is June 6th. Attendance at this function is steadily growing; all participants go home with a prize. Come out and help, it takes about 30 volunteers to run this event.
Community Living Dances
Providing a evening of dancing and fun for the disabled. This project is ongoing held 5 times a year, including Valentines, Christmas and in the summer, we hold a Street Dance, weather permitting. Attendance of clients at these events has been breaking all records, and still steadily growing to the point we get concerned about "outgrowing' our current facilities at Princess Elizabeth School.
Junior Civitan
Major supporter to all Junior Civitan events and fundraisers, especially Sno-Do (February in Barrie) and Dance-a-thon (March in Midland).
Local Scholarship Program
Offered to a 2nd year student at Fanshawe College studying in the field of Mental Disabilities. This is named after Bradley McNeil, the disabled son of a former member.
Muriel Dorey Bursary
Offered to a Junior Civitan in Canada planning continuing education after high school. Named in honour of a previous President who passed away while in office, this was awarded for the first time in 2006 and has been awarded each year since. Details and applications have now been mailed around the District for the current year. This year's recipient: Ashley Robinson from Perth, Ontario.
Stuff the Bus
December 12 2008 at the parking lot at Argyle Mall, Dundas & Clarke Road, where we stuffed an Elgie Bus Lines minibus for Jimmy's Families from 8am to about 1pm. All non-perishable food items collected went into Christmas Hampers being delivered to the homes around London. This event was being spear-ended by life member, Jim Squires, who is also involved in the Post Office Christmas Hamper program. Jim was our 'guest speaker' at the November dinner meeting in 2006, and filled us in on his "life's work". Way to go, Jim!!
Check out the Picture Gallery for some shots taken previous years' events and watch for us again this December.
Seniors Christmas
Providing visitation and gifts each year for those seniors in our community who would not have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas because they are alone. This project has been ongoing for many years, at both Kensington Village and The Dearness Home.
The 2008 project is now done, with gifts being purchased for 20 Kensington residents. Civitan Dorothy once again was out there playing "Santa's helper" getting things ready. Delivery of gifts happened in December at Kensington Village where we got to meet many of the seniors, including one lady over 90 years old.
