Community Involvement - Civitan's purpose is to serve the community. This is done by fulfilling human needs that are not met by other organizations or by individual efforts. Individuals whose needs are best met through organized group action are prime candidates for Civitan service projects. In all we do, Civitans seek experiences that provide life direction, character building, leadership development, and the satisfaction of helping others. As a result of our work, a Civitan typically experiences a heightened sense of self-esteem and accomplishment.
Networking Possibilities - - Civitan is truly an internatinal organization with clubs in 23 countries on four continents. Our club conducts regular meetings which offers opportunities to meet other club members and community leaders. Our Civitan District and Region offer conventions allowing members from a wide area to meet. The Civitan International Annual Convention draws more than 1,500 Civitans each year from around the globe.
Leadership Opportunities - - Leadership opportunities are available on all three levels of our organization; club, district and international. Officers attend training academies to gain useful skills for all aspects of life.
Personal Development - - Interesting speakers are part of every club meeting. While some programs may focus on Civitan topics, many others involve business, community and elected leaders on various topics. |

| Diversity of Civitan |
|
| Civitan has prestigious recognition in the world of volunteer service organizations. In 1974, Civitan became the first organization of its type to actively seek both men and women members. Civitan offers the most experienced diversity in the types of clubs throughout the world. Civitan's once all-male organization is now about 35 percent female and 75 percent of our clubs have both men and women members. There are some male only and female clubs also. Diversity is a key attribute of Civitan. |
