Greater Napanee Civitan Club

Governor's Message

As I start my year as your Governor, I have to take a moment and reflect back on the last twelve months. I have visited a lot of the clubs, been to Civitan International Headquarters in Alabama, went on a Civitan International Cruise, and attended many functions held by Civitan Clubs all over the District plus our three District Conventions

I am looking forward to my year as Governor and in taking up the International President’s theme of “MEETING THE CHALLENGE”.

On the very first day of my year as your Governor, I had the pleasure of swearing in a brand new member into Civitan. Not only was she a brand new member but I had the good fortune to be her sponsor and she joined my home club of Gananoque. What a great way to show International President Danny Jackson that I am up to the challenge. I know that all of the members of Canadian District East will do their best to also bring in a new member this year. If we do not start to grow, then this District will be in trouble in a few years. We need to recruit new members, young and old alike. I know this is not an easy task but all I did was ASK HER IF SHE WANTED TO JOIN A GREAT SERVICE CLUB. How many of us know someone new to our area, or a single person that they see staying home all the time? Maybe they are just looking for something to do and would jump at the chance to volunteer but no one has asked! I CHALLENGE EVERY MEMBER TO ASK AT LEAST ONE PERSON TO JOIN. The answer might surprise you.

I would like to ask all clubs to remember the C.H.E.O. Telethon and Breakthrough Golf when they do their budgets.

If at any time I can be of assistance please call on me. Remember we all can “MEET THE CHALLENGE” IF WE WORK AS A TEAM.

Yours In Civitan

Greg Dobbie
Governor 2008-2009
