Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Also, there are tickets sold for a drawing as well as door prizes awarded throughout the evening. Fashions will be supplied by Twisted Sisters and modeled by our members. The club members are also asked to bring a covered dish salad or desert. Those who attend, will have a great evening filled with eating, and much entertainment.
Selling of Halloween Bears Fundraiser- Fall
A couple of years ago, we picked this up as a new fundraiser and it still seems to be very popular. We order Halloween Bears for $3.00 and sell them for $6. Each year they are a little different. Sometimes in the spring we sell another stuffed item depending on the budget.
Halloween in the Park- Last Saturday in October
This is sponsored by a citizen's committee. Our club usually attends the Halloween at the Park and either distributes bags of candy, or works at a game, or a food booth.
Washington County Home Christmas Party
This is sponsored by the men’s Civitan. The party is held at the Washington County Home. The Men’s club buys gifts for all of the County Home residents and our club provides the refreshments: ham salad sandwiches, chips and cookies and together we serve goodies to all the residents.
Sponsor 2 Families for Christmas
We choose two families at Christmas and receive their wish lists. Each club member then picks an item(s) they wish to purchase for the family member and wrap the gift and bring it usually to a meeting or drop it off at a designated location.
Stanley Party- 2nd Meeting in March
This is a fund raiser for the club. During one of our meetings, a Stanley Home Product book is distributed and orders are placed. We also play the game “STANO” which is similar to Bingo and we win prizes. The club receives a percentage of the total sales made from the Stanley sales.
Shamrock Run-March
This is a “run” to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Our club helps the American Cancer Society by conducting the water stop booths along the race course.
Home Show Concessions-February or March
This is a show where a number of various vendors selling home improvement products etc. display their goods at the Jr. Fair Building at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Our club raises money at the show by conducting a concession stand. Members of the club are asked to donate baked goods as well as sign up to work at the concession stand throughout the weekend.
Relay For Life- Weekend After Mother's Day
This is a 24 hour walk at the Belpre Civitan Park to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Our club participates by having various members walk at the event as well as having several members on the Relay For Life planning committee. We also help by donating baked beans and helping serve the Survivor's dinner for 600 on Friday night. And we, along with the Marietta Civitan Club provide funds for and serve the lunch for 300 to 400 on Saturday
Dog Show Dinners
We fix and serve dinners for 4 days to the judges of the Blennerhassett Dog Show at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
This year third weekend in May
Sausage Stand at the Fair and the Sternwheel Festival and River Roar
This is one of our largest fund raisers of the year. The Men’s club has a concession booth at these events selling Bob Evan’s Farm sausage sandwiches and sausage links. Our club helps by working at both events and wrapping sandwiches and links and stocking.
Life Link
This is a service that we provide for an elderly person in the community. This is a button that is either worn around the neck or on an emergency box that the person can push in case of an emergency. Emergency personnel then go to the home to check on the individual.
Good Citizen Scholarship Awards
Our group picks (usually two) individuals in the senior class at Marietta High School who exemplify “Good Citizenship”. We then go to the awards ceremony held at the end of the school year (May) to present these monetary awards.
Citizen of the Year
The club picks a citizen from the community yearly who we feel has provided a lot to the community or who has demonstrated that they are a “Good Citizen”. This person is recognized at one of our meetings.
Special Education Teacher of the Year- First Meeting in May
A special education teacher is selected yearly as the “Special Education Teacher of the Year”. We hold a guest/spouse potluck dinner at this meeting and recognize the teacher at the dinner. They are presented with an award and gift certificate (usually to a teacher school supply store).
Monthly Craft Projects
Each month we assemble a craft item to distribute to the residents of the Women's Home on Third Street and to the residents at Hannah's House. It brightens the days of the residents and is a project we can all pitch in and help with assembling at the meetings.
Food Pantry Collections
We try to hold these collections monthly-depending on our meeting schedules. We alternate between the Marietta and Lowell Food Pantries. We try to focus on cereal, paper products, and toiletry items, but any and all items are appreciated. Sometimes they even give us items for special requests such as noodles near Thanksgiving. |
