Civitan is an international service organization in which each club supports local needs. Every Civitan understands and promotes the three goals of fellowship with one another, knowledge about the community at large, and service

To their fellow man. Locally, the group is occupied raising money of which 90 percent goes to organizations such as hospice, Salvation Army, Christian Center, Boy's and Girl's Club, Berkshire County ARC, etc. Last year Civitan Club of Pittsfield served over 800 meals to the needy.

Civitans are dedicated to improving their communities through providing service to others. On the international & Local level, Civitan focuses on helping people with developmental disabilities. Civitan funds the Civitan International Research center, a research and treatment facility for mental developmental disabilities

 
 

 Civitan Club celebrates 50 years

         
      Sunday, June 17 The Civitan Club of Pittsfield celebrated its 50th year as  a service club on May 15 at the Country Club of Pittsfield.

 Among the 75 guests attending were Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto and his wife, Ellen; State Rep. Christopher Speranzo; Pittsfield City Councilman Jonathan  Lothrup; and Civitan New England District Governor Margaret Deschenko.


   Guest speaker Louis Stevens, vice president of Civitan ternational from  Birmingham, Ala., recognized the record of service that the Pittsfield Club has provided to the citizens of the area.
   Bruce Grunow and Peter Giftos were honored as the only Civitan charter  members since its inception in 1957. They were each presented with a  mantle clock with engraved inscriptions.
   One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Civitan Honor Keys. This year's honorees were Ellie Mara, Ed Burniske and Dan Boulais.
   The Civitan Club of Pittsfield raises funds for numerous organizations in  need, as well as serving more than 1,500 meals a year to the homeless through the Salvation Army and First Baptist Church.

My Hope: is a better world through Civitan.

My Motto: builders of good citizenship.

My Belief: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
