Club News:
Manna Food Bank continues to be one of the service projects for the club. On October 8th members met to pack food boxes for local families. We also continue to bring nonperishable food items to each meeting. Please bring them to each meeting; Donna has accepted responsibility for delivering all food items collected monthly.
White House ornaments are in and ready for sale. Please contact Kay if you are interested in selling or purchasing an ornament. Ornaments are still only $20 each. It would be helpful for the club record-keeping if we use the form Syd prepared.
Kay announced the club has three new members: Sandra Fields, Dwana Pinchock, and Alan Lovell. We look forward to seeing them at future meetings.
The Spring District Meeting will be held on March 30 to April 2 at the Doubletree Hotel in Rockville. Our club will be hosts to this event and we have much planning to do in the next few months. Kay has agreed to serve as coordinator for this event. Please contact Kay to see how you can help.
Our club will be reaching a milestone in January 2006. We will celebrate 50 years of serving others in the name of Civitan. A special birthday party will be held in either late May or early June so that the Fishman’s will be able to participate. Past club members still in the area will be invited to attend. Please let Darryl know of names and addresses for the invitations.
Donna has been appointed Social Committee Chair and she is currently working on a holiday social for the club. Since the holidays are a very busy time for most people, please contact her with possible dates and suggestions for a location so plans can get underway.

President’s Corner
October 2005
As we begin a new Civitan year, I am happy to be your President for what I hope will be a very special year in the Rockville Club. I was unaware until Syd Fishman told me, this is the 50th year of the club. I can’t even imagine all the benefit that people have received over fifty years from the service that this club has provided. I have been in Civitan for seventeen years in four different clubs, and I find it amazing what is accomplished in many different ways for the various communities.
In the upcoming months, I would like to see us turn the corner and begin to grow again. We can do so much if we do. We are beginning to focus on new projects. We need to do more of this.
I also would like to see this year be a celebration of the fifty years. Not many clubs have achieved this distinction. We plan to have a reunion celebration in the late spring or early summer of 2006. I ask that, if you know any former members, to let me know and I will start compiling a list so we can invite as many as possible. They have all contributed to our history and we should honor them for that.
I have been a member of this club for a short time, but have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of you. I really look forward to the meetings, projects, and especially the social time. I am looking forward to a very enjoyable year.
Join us at 7:00 PM at Umberto’s for our next meetings.
