The Civitan Club of Simsbury and the Farmington Valley held it's 3rd Annual Antique and Collectible Show Show on May 20, 2007 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the commuter and events lot off the Iron Horse Boulevard in the center of Simsbury. The admission was $3 and free to those under 16 years. The proceeds from the show went to benefit two scholarships for two deserving Boy Scouts from Troup 174.
This Antique Show is just one of the many projects that the Club undertakes throughout the year in an effort to help make their local community better for all citizens. Besides renting space to vendors we had a Bake Sale Booth, which the Junior Civitans baked for and the Boy Scouts from Troop 174, who we sponsor ran the Food Booth. They also set up the grounds the evening before and beginning at 6:00 a.m. the day of the show with assisting with the traffic flow of the vendors. They were available all throughout day spell vendors at their booths. Once the show closed at 4 p.m. the Boy Scouts assisted with the exiting of the vendors as well as the clean up of the site.
The Antique and Collectible Show serves another purpose and that is to spread the word of CIVITAN. At our Membership Booth we had an opportunity to give public information about our organization and some of the projects we are involved in each year. We are fortunate to have gained new members this year.
The Scholarship Committee comprised of Michele Potvin-Piecuch, Nick Civitillo Troop Leader, Regina Bataglia Jr. Civitan Adviser and Mary Turner, District Chairman of Junior Civitan selected the two recipients based upon their scholarship, citizenship and competitive essay.
This year there were no graduating Junior Civitan members who applied for the scholarship. Therefore, we gave the second scholarship to another deserving Boy Scout.

Candy Box
Our Club maintains a combination of both coin and candy boxes, a total of over forty. These are serviced by several of our members at regular and appropriate intervals. The boxes are placed in retail outlets, restaurants, farm produce stands, etc. We maintain boxes in throughout the Farmington Valley. Our candy box funds are used to support the Civitan Research Center and local projects which aid the developmentally disabled. |

Construction Projects
The Club has left its mark on the local landscape in a number of places with the construction of structures contributing to the quality of life in our community. The following are some examples:
Built a gazebo at the Owen Murphy Apartments, which gets a lot of use during the summer season.
Installed a glider swing at the Virginia Connolly Apartments.
Built a bridge spanning a stream behind the Simsbury Library, giving access to a walking trail in the woods.
Built a wheelchair ramp at the home of a disabled resident.
In the Simsbury Town Forest constructed fireplaces for picnickers, built a shelter for overnight Boys and Girls Scout campers, re-roofed a storage barn used by YMCA Camp Masacoe.
