Tampa Metro Civitan Club
Tampa Metro Civitan Club History

Our club, chartered on April 21, 1927, is a local service club dedicated to helping individual and community needs in the Greater Tampa Bay area, with a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.  Just a few of our projects include working with the Special Olympics, Neighbor-to-Neighbor Christmas, and Angel’s Unaware (group homes for the severely mentally and physically disabled).

In 1927 we established the now prestigious Tampa Metro Civitan Outstanding Citizen of the Year award.  Our most current award was presented to Mr. Thomas Touchton on February 9, 2009, during the Governor's Day Luncheon at the Florida State Fair.  Congratulations Mr. Touchton and thank you for your service to our community!

Tampa Metro Civitan is not just a local club; our club is a branch of Civitan International, a worldwide association of community service clubs, with members in 24 countries. In 1960, Civitan created the UAB Civitan Iternational Research Center, with a $20 million commitment to conduct research into the causes of developmental disabilities and to provide clinical services and programs to developmentally disabled children and adults.
