The Bakas Equestrian Center - Horses for the Handicapped Program is a FREE program offered by the Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation department to special needs children and adults "to enable them to experience the joy, excitement and challenge of horseback riding." Athletes participating in this wonderful program are able participate in competitions and demonstrations throughout the year including the Special Olympics Area 8 and State Equestrian events. The Bakas Equestrian Center is an accredited member of the North American Riding for Handicapped Association (NARHA) and of the Florida Exceptional Equestrian League Network (FEEL'N). The Horses for the Handicapped program is a well respected program that helps keep our special needs athletes physically fit and emotionally well rounded. In addition to managing awards at the Special Olympics Area 8 Equestrian competition, the Tampa Metro Civitan Club sponsors the Bakas Annual Christmas Party, funding the purchase of gifts for all riders and their siblings. |
